UCAD: Match de fraternité entre étudiants marocains et sénégalais
In a context marked by some tensions arising from the final of the Africa Cup of Nations won by Senegal against Morocco (1-0), an initiative aimed at appeasement took place this Tuesday at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD).
Indeed , the sports department of Coud organized a friendly match between Senegalese and Moroccan students from the Faculty of Medicine to promote fraternity and unity between the two peoples.
This sporting event brought together students of both nationalities in a friendly atmosphere, far removed from heated sporting rivalries. The aim was to remind everyone that sport should remain a force for unity, not division.
For Cheikh Khatab Sagna, president of the Faculty of Medicine Alumni Association, this initiative is part of a broader dynamic of cooperation and mutual respect.
“The relationship between Senegal and Morocco goes far beyond the realm of sport. A football match should never be a cause of division. Here at the university, we maintain close ties with Moroccan students, who are often guests of honor at our events. This match was organized to strengthen our relations. The result matters little; the most important thing is to show that we are two nations, but one people,” he said.
The same sentiment was echoed by Moroccan students. The president of the League of Moroccan Students in Senegal, Ikbal Lahlimi Alami, emphasized the deep historical ties between the two countries. " The links between Morocco and Senegal go back a long way. We are brotherly countries and we will remain so," she affirmed.
The match was kicked off by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Bara Ndiaye.
Beyond the final score, this friendly match will remain a powerful symbol of fraternity, reminding us that the values of solidarity, respect and living together take precedence over any sporting rivalry.
