Large-scale security operation in the Saraya department: 64 people arrested, several illegal sites dismantled

Vaste opération de sécurisation dans le département de Saraya : 64 personnes interpellées, plusieurs sites illégaux démantelés

In a determined effort to combat insecurity in the Kédougou region, the Gendarmerie Legion, recently inaugurated by the Minister of the Armed Forces, launched a major security operation in the Saraya department on Sunday, August 3, 2025. This large-scale operation will continue until August 10, with the aim of dismantling the hotbeds of illegal activity plaguing the area.

Mobilizing significant human and logistical resources, the operation involves the surveillance and intervention squadrons of Kédougou, Salémata and the Rapid Action Group for Surveillance and Intervention (GARSI-2), in collaboration with territorial units for judicial missions. It also benefits from the technological support of the National Gendarmerie's Support Drone Squadron.

The provisional report shows 64 people arrested and numerous seizures.

Since the launch of the operation, the forces involved have arrested 64 individuals, including 6 Senegalese and 58 foreigners, in several strategic locations: Kharakhéna, Massawa, Thiancoumbassa, Sabodala and Tinkoto. These interventions have led to the dismantling of several illegal gold mining sites and 17 clandestine bars.

The seizures demonstrate the extent of illegal activities carried out in the area and include:

Heavy equipment: 12 generators, 52 motor pumps, 8 jackhammers, 1 water pump
Means of transport: 7 tricycles, 40 motorcycles, 1 “piki paka”
Extraction equipment: 22 shovels, 6 pickaxes, 1 wheelbarrow, 2 water ropes
Energy equipment: 5 solar panels
Flammable products: 4 20-litre cans of diesel
Stolen Mining Products: 6 Bags of Gold-Bearing Pebbles Stolen from a Private Site
Illegal site equipment: 4 spitting machines and several makeshift installations destroyed

In addition to gold panning, the operation targeted areas of social delinquency. The police seized:

Sound equipment: 10 speakers, 1 amplifier, 1 piano, 2 drum kits
Items related to hookah consumption: 3 hookahs and 10 coals
Alcoholic beverages: 87 cans of Cody's, 33 bottles of Desperados, 96 cans of Royal Dutch, 109 cans of Harbor Gold, 9 bottles of El Pacho, 20 cans of Palais Royal, 4 cans of “Le Vieux” and 84 cans of Vody, as well as 16 bottles of Pichet

Through this operation, the Kédougou Gendarmerie Legion is sending a strong signal to lawbreakers. It reaffirms its commitment to establishing order, securing the population, and preserving national resources against illegal and anarchic exploitation.

The command promises to continue its efforts until the area is completely cleaned up, in synergy with other security forces and local authorities.

Bonne continuation. Il faut combattre l'exploitation illégale de matières premières. Des étrangers viennent à Kédougou et volent notre or et disparaissent comme ce fut le cas de chinois venus du Mali voisin pour voler de l'or à Kédougou.

Il faut revoir les accords de libre circulation et libre installation de l'UEMOA. Les orpailleurs clandestins guinéens, maliens, burkinabés, gambiens et ivoiriens vont détruire nos forêts et fleuves dans le sud. Ce qu'aucun sénégalais n'ose faire dans leurs pays (Guinée, Gambie, mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire), ils ne se gênent pas au Sénégal. Nos jeunes citadins n'iront jamais faire de l'orpaillage clandestin dans le sud-est.
A cela s'ajoute les actions des mafias chinoise, nigérianne (trafic sexuel, prostitution de masse, trafic de drogue de tous genres, extorsion de fonds, etc....), indienne, libanaise.
La faiblesse de nos économies ne permet pas l'application des directives UEMOA. L'Etat Sénégalais, l'Armée Nationale ainsi que toutes les forces de défense et de sécurité (tous corps assimilés) doivent mettre fin à cette saignée dans les séquelles seront irréversibles dans la zone.

c est surtout le manque de patriotisme de nos dirigeants a tamba toute la foret a ete brulee par des etrangers qui obtiennent l autorisation de coupe sans reboiser c est triste qui signe ces autorisations
