The Grand Yoff district police station brought an end to the flight of a woman suspected of arson, destruction of property, endangering the lives of others, and trespassing. The events, marked by a rare and symbolic violence, took place on April 29, 2026, around 3:00 p.m., in the Arafat neighborhood. The victim went to the police station urgently to report that her studio apartment, located on the first floor of a three-story building housing several families, was engulfed in flames. The post-fire inspection revealed the extent of the disaster. Nearly all the furniture and technological equipment, including a 75-inch television and various household appliances, were reduced to ashes, while the electrical system was completely destroyed. Investigators quickly focused on the possibility of arson. Consistent witness statements indicating a woman's hasty departure, combined with the review of CCTV footage from a neighboring establishment, allowed them to identify a suspicious sequence of events. When confronted with this footage, the complainant positively identified his ex-partner, from whom he had recently separated.
Located thanks to technical investigations, the suspect was arrested on April 30, 2026, at her workplace in the Parcelles Assainies district. While she initially tried to deny the charges, she eventually confessed fully in the face of the overwhelming evidence gathered by the police. During her interrogation, she admitted to acting in a fit of anger and a profound sense of humiliation. She explained that she couldn't bear to see her former partner publicly displaying his affections with a new partner, who happened to be her own coworker at the restaurant where she worked.
Driven by a desire for revenge, she broke into the studio using a spare key she had kept after their breakup. Once inside, she deliberately set fire to her ex-boyfriend's belongings before fleeing. Currently in police custody, the suspect is expected to be brought before the prosecutor in the coming days. The investigation continues to close this case of sexual misconduct that nearly turned into a collective tragedy.
