Vente de viande de chat devant l'UCAD: un étranger déféré , les révélations choquantes de la police
According to a press release from the National Police's Communication and Public Relations Division, a foreign national was brought before the prosecutor on Thursday, March 13, 2026, by the Point E District Police Station for selling unfit-for-consumption products, vagrancy, and illegal residency. This sordid affair raises serious concerns about food security in certain neighborhoods of the capital.

Caught red-handed near the Corniche
The incident dates back to March 12, 2026, near the Malian Embassy. A parking attendant, an eyewitness, noticed an individual descending the rocks along the Corniche carrying a suspicious bag. Intrigued, he decided to discreetly follow him. The scene he discovered was shocking: the suspect was slitting a cat's throat with a shard of glass. Security personnel stationed nearby were immediately alerted and apprehended him.
Partial confessions, a contradictory version
During questioning, the suspect admitted to slitting the throats of two cats, but maintained that the meat was for his personal consumption. Investigators did not accept this version of events.
Several consistent testimonies paint a completely different picture of the accused: a well-known street meat vendor, he regularly operated on Avenue Cheikh Anta Diop and along the Corniche. A police officer even confirms that the individual frequently appeared at night to sell meat in a bowl.
The investigations also established that he frequented the area around Cheikh Anta Diop University to sell his merchandise.
An irregular stay, in addition
In addition to the offenses related to selling products unfit for consumption, it emerged that the accused was in Senegal illegally. Placed in police custody following the proceedings, he was brought before the Public Prosecutor.
The case raises worrying questions about meat supply chains in certain frequented areas, particularly around UCAD, and calls for increased vigilance from health authorities.
