Vers un nouveau programme économique avec le FMI : Mamadou Ibra Kane s’interroge sur la transparence
Journalist and analyst Mamadou Ibra Kane, responding to the findings of the IMF mission to Dakar, expressed his concerns. According to him, "there is still one point of clarification regarding the so-called hidden debt."
While hoping that the negotiations will not result in restrictive measures for the population, he warns: "We must, however, hope that the next program will not be synonymous with drastic measures on the purchasing power of the population, such as the elimination of certain subsidies."
The IMF has recorded growth of 12.1% in the first quarter of 2025. But here again, Mamadou Ibra Kane calls for consistency in the criticisms leveled at the international institution: "If eminent officials of the State-Pastef persist in believing that the Fund was guilty of complicity with the previous regime on the hidden debt and the budget deficit, they should also doubt the good faith of this same IMF on the 12% growth. A question of logic. Which can take us very far..."
Beyond the figures, the analyst points to a need for clarity on several financial issues: "When will the ForvisMazars report be published? How much did it cost the Senegalese government (if it commissioned it). What about the report from the Court of Auditors, which is authorized to certify public accounts, and what justifies the use of an international audit mission?"
For Mamadou Ibra Kane, these gray areas will have to be cleared up sooner or later: "To be clarified one day or another in the name of transparency."
