Ziguinchor : A Kaguitte, les populations plaident pour le désenclavement et l'électrification des villages
The villages of Kourein, Etafoun, Kaguitte Proman, Youtou, Élalab, Éramé and Kassoule, members of the Senegalese-Bissau-Guinean Alliance for Peace and Integration, have called for the opening up of their localities and better living conditions, including access to electricity. These populations have complained about the conditions of access to most of the villages, due to the lack of passable roads.
"We are complaining as allies about our own route within the region. The Kaguitte-Éramé route via Kassou-Senegal, Kassou-Guinea-Bissau, the Kaguitte-Youtou route. It is difficult to access with the rising tide of the river," said Daouda Diédhiou, president of the alliance.
In the process, Mr. Diédhiou launched an appeal to the Senegalese authorities to pave this road, a key axis for the movement of people and products between the localities crossed.
A grievance reinforced by the mayor of Niassya, Justine Manga Bassène: "This is a plea we are still making. We said it to the honorable member present here that the alliance deserves support, given the achievements they are making in the context of opening up. When you say village, you say accessibility, opening up. Look at the state of the Kaguitte road, it's bumpy."
This state of affairs, according to Ms. Basséne, weighs heavily on the economic activities of this constituency. ʺHere in Kaguitte, there was a weekly market. If today it is struggling to resume, it is because Kaguitte is landlocked, just like the other areas of Guinea-Bissau. […] If these areas are not opened up, it will be very difficult for us to reopen this marketʺ, according to the mayor of Niassya, who advocates for the construction of at least a suitable track and a bridge, failing which a paved road.
The indigenous people also advocated for the electrification of villages, even though progress has been noted in this area in recent years, with the installation of solar streetlights and the rural electrification program.
