Ziguinchor : danger sur le pont Émile Badiane, le collectif "L’Heure est grave" interpelle le régime Diomaye
The "L'Heure est grave" collective is sounding the alarm about the dire situation at the Émile Badiane bridge. According to its coordinator, El Hadj Camara, "this bridge is now a constant danger to the public. Its fragile guardrails, visible cracks, structural corrosion, and narrow roadway make it a veritable death trap for users."
Every day, hundreds of vehicles, trucks and motorcycles pass through, exposing their passengers to constant risk.
On April 30, the Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, announced the laying of the foundation stone for a second bridge between Tobor and Ziguinchor in July. However, this announcement did not provide any details regarding the actual start date of construction.
“For over five years, we have been demanding a new bridge. We no longer expect symbolic ceremonies, but concrete actions,” insists El Hadj Camara. Barely a month after this statement, a public transport minibus skidded off the road and plunged into the Casamance River. The toll is tragic: at least two dead and several injured.
According to the coordinator of the collective, "this tragedy illustrates the absolute urgency. July must be the month for starting the work, and not for another political charade."
The group denounces a strategy that prioritizes announcements over citizen safety.
