Ziguinchor : Les agents de la mairie suspendent le travail en soutien de leurs camarades interpelés par la police
Ziguinchor city hall workers decided to stop all activity after a little over three hours of work this morning and gathered at the Court of Appeal. This was in solidarity with their fellow road workers who are in trouble with the law.
They denounce the silence of Mayor Djibril Sonko, after the arrest of 10 officers, following the demolition of a building in the Boucotte Sindian district, on August 4, 2025, on the orders of the mayor. This building is under construction on land considered a public space by the municipality.
According to a video broadcast by municipal radio, a police officer claims that several summonses had been sent to the owner to stop the work, without success. During the intervention of the city hall officers, the plaintiff, who was filming the scene, had his phone confiscated by the officers. He filed a complaint for illegal demolition, assault and battery, and the seizure of his phone, leading to the initiation of legal action.
The officers, presented as members of the municipal police, say they have been abandoned by the municipality. Three of them are under investigation by the public prosecutor, and seven others are being held in custody at the Yamatogne police station, awaiting a hearing with the prosecutor this morning, according to our sources.
