Accusé de viol : Thomas Partey interdit d’entrer au Canada
Thomas Partey will miss Ghana's opening World Cup match. The 32-year-old midfielder, now playing for Villarreal, was denied entry to Canada by Canadian authorities.
According to The Athletic, this refusal is linked to the accusations against the player in England. London police have charged him with seven alleged rapes and one alleged sexual assault between July 2025 and last February. Partey has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. However, Canadian law prohibits entry to the country for individuals charged with a crime.
FIFA confirmed the visa rejection, stating that it does not intervene in the immigration procedures of host countries.
Ghana will therefore face Panama on Wednesday, June 17 in Toronto without him. Partey will, however, be able to join the Black Stars for the remainder of the group stage matches in the United States: against England on June 23 in Boston, then against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia. The player has been with his national team in Washington since June 4.
