Iraq, Senegal's opponent in Group I of the 2026 World Cup, began their preparation by defeating Andorra (1-0) on Friday in Girona, Spain.

For this first preparation outing, Australian coach Graham Arnold fielded a team mixing experienced players and those seeking a place in the final 26-man squad, which must be submitted to FIFA in the coming days.

The only goal of the match was scored by Ali Youssif in the 20th minute, allowing the Lions of Mesopotamia to secure a valuable victory before their upcoming tests against Spain and Venezuela.

Having qualified for their second World Cup, Iraq will face Senegal on June 23rd during the third day of Group I.
