AJ Auxerre (Ligue 1 France) : L’arrière droit Lamine Sy prêt à rejoindre les Lions
Born in France to Senegalese parents, 23-year-old Lamine Sy plays as a right-back for AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1. He began his training at Clairefontaine, a symbol of French excellence, before continuing his development at Stade Malherbe Caen. This formative path instilled in him a strong work ethic and early maturity.
The Auxerre defender now fully embraces his dual culture and says he is ready to wear the colors of the Senegalese national team.
“Yes, I have a dual culture. My parents taught me to be proud of my origins. My father is very attached to Senegal and has always passed on to us this love of the country,” he confided in an interview with Dsport.
Although Lamine Sy plays for a French club, Senegal holds a special place in his heart. "The choice of the heart is natural. Wearing the Senegalese jersey and representing the country of my parents would be a huge source of pride. My goal is to make my parents and my whole family proud," he says.
Aware of the demands of top-level football, the right-back approaches things with humility. "Representing my parents' country would be a huge honor. But I know it has to be earned. I work every day to perform well," he maintains.
Having previously been called up to the Senegalese U23 team, an injury hampered his progress. "If the opportunity arises again, I won't hesitate for a second," he promises.
