Arène nationale : nouvelle gestion, nouvelles règles
Changes are afoot in the management of the National Arena. The Office for the Management of Sports Infrastructure (OGIS) is taking over just days before the start of the 2025-2026 wrestling season. Now headed by Babacar Ndiaye, this body is taking over the management of the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium and the National Arena, previously overseen by Ouleymatou Cissokho under the authority of the Ministry of Sports, reports the specialized newspaper Record.
The sports daily reports that, to present the new rules for the use and maintenance of the arena, the Director General of OGIS convened the main wrestling promoters at the LSS stadium, in the presence of the President of the CNG, Malick Ngom. The meeting provided an opportunity to explain the new management methods and hear the promoters' expectations.
The Director General of OGIS reiterated that the management model has now changed and emphasized the need for close collaboration with promoters to ensure the preservation of infrastructure. He stated that he had taken note of concerns regarding the perimeter wall, gate security, and the installation of internal barriers. Babacar Ndiaye stressed the importance of consulting with stakeholders before making any decisions, acknowledging that the world of wrestling is "both unique and sensitive."
The president of the National Wrestling Management Committee (CNG), Malick Ngom, welcomed a "constructive" meeting, noting that several points of agreement were reached despite some disagreements. He announced adjustments to the conditions for allocating the arena, without major upheavals, and promised continued support for sustainable management.
For their part, the promoters, through their spokesperson Makane Mbengue, stated their willingness to cooperate but reiterated that OGIS has a duty to support them and resolve their difficulties. They emphasized that they are investing in wrestling out of patriotism and to support Senegalese youth, despite the possibility of investing in other sectors.
