This Wednesday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held elections for its Executive Committee members and representatives to the FIFA Council. The vote resulted in a disqualification for Augustin Senghor, president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). With just 13 votes, he finished far behind Morocco's Fouzi Lekjaa, who won with 49 votes, and failed to gain admission to the world body. Following this defeat, Senghor announced his immediate resignation from his position as CAF first vice-president, which he had held since March 2021. A brutal decision that brought to an end years of commitment to the continental organization.
This resignation raises a crucial question: will Augustin Senghor be a candidate for his own succession at the head of the FSF? To this day, uncertainty remains.
