Bara Sapoko Ndiaye : «Je dormais. À mon réveil, j’ai vu que j’avais…»
In comments reported by L'Observateur, Bara Sapoko Ndiaye recounts how he learned he was among the 26 Lions selected for the 2026 World Cup. "Actually, I was asleep. When I woke up, I saw that I had a huge number of calls and messages," the Bayern Munich player recalls. "That's when I looked and discovered I was on the list. It's a huge source of pride because nothing was guaranteed."
Indeed, it wasn't a sure thing for the 18-year-old footballer. Included in Pape Thiaw's preliminary 28-man squad, Sapoko Ndiaye was considered one of the players who, along with another unfortunate soul, would have to be left out of the group when the final selection was made. But that was without taking into account his performance against the United States (2-3) in a friendly last Sunday, the day before the announcement.
Starting in midfield alongside Lamine Camara and Habib Diarra, the Bavarian played the entire match and delivered a near-flawless performance. Was that enough for Pape Thiaw to reconsider the expectations placed upon him? Clearly, yes.
