Basket - Eliminatoires Mondial-2027 : La RD Congo surprend Madagascar en ouverture
The second window of the African qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup kicked off this Thursday at the Marius Ndiaye Stadium in Dakar with a match between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar. In the opening game of Group B, the Leopards of the DRC emerged victorious with a score of 87-79 after a close contest.
The Congolese team got off to a strong start, taking the lead in the first two quarters. Solid on defense and efficient in the paint, the Congolese players went into halftime with a comfortable thirteen-point lead (45-32), suggesting a controlled second half.
But after returning from the locker room, Madagascar changed their approach. Fueled by improved shooting accuracy and a more aggressive style of play, the Malagasy team inflicted a resounding 29-16 defeat on their opponents in the third quarter.
At the start of the final quarter, the two teams were perfectly tied (61-61), completely reviving the match.
In the closing minutes, DR Congo's experience shone through. More composed in the crucial moments, the Leopards regained control of the game to ultimately secure an 87-79 victory. This valuable win allows them to provisionally claim first place in Group B.
