Basket-Éliminatoires mondial 2027 : le Sénégal chute d’entrée face à la Côte d’Ivoire
Senegal missed their entry into Group B of the second window of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. Facing Ivory Coast this Thursday at the Marius Ndiaye Stadium in Dakar, the Lions lost (80-90) at the end of a match marked by a difficult start and a lack of efficiency in key moments.
From the first quarter, the Ivorians imposed their rhythm. More aggressive and skillful, they quickly widened the gap to take the first quarter (14-28). The Lions, inaccurate on open shots and shaky defensively, struggled to contain the opposing attacks.
Senegal's response came in the second quarter. Fueled by a surge of pride, Ngagne Desagana Diop's men won the period (23-20). But at halftime, the gap remained significant in favor of the Elephants (37-48).
Upon returning from the locker room, Senegal displayed a completely different face. More aggressive on defense and sharper on offense, the Lions won the third quarter (24-18) and came back to within four points (62-66), completely reviving the game.
The hope, however, was short-lived. In the final quarter, Ivory Coast regained control of the game and won the fourth quarter (18-24), definitively sealing the outcome of the match. The final score was 80-90.
Between repeated turnovers, poor shooting, and a disastrous start, the Lions paid dearly for their mistakes. They will need to quickly regroup before their next match against Madagascar, scheduled for Saturday at 9 p.m., again at the Marius Ndiaye Stadium.
This defeat already complicates Senegal's task in this decisive window for the race to the 2027 World Cup.
