The draw for the 2026 Women's Basketball World Cup qualifiers will be held this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at FIBA headquarters. It will be conducted by Marie Gülich, a German professional player playing in the EuroLeague and WNBA and a key figure in the German national team, and Endy Miyem, former iconic captain of the French national team, Olympic medalist, and European champion, reports Le Soleil.
According to the same source, the 24 teams were divided into six pots, based on the FIBA Women's World Rankings. Senegal, fourth in Afrobasket 2025, is placed in Pot 6, alongside Argentina, the Philippines, and South Sudan, the national daily reports.
Nigeria, another African representative, is in pot 2, along with major nations such as Spain and Canada.
The qualifying tournaments will take place from March 11 to 17 in four host cities: Istanbul (Turkey), Lyon-Villeurbanne (France), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Wuhan (China). Each venue will host six teams.
Host country Germany and the winners of the 2025 Continental Cups - Australia, Belgium, Nigeria and the United States - automatically qualify for the World Cup.
