Basket - Qualification Mondial-2026 : Les Lionnes à San Juan après un long périple
The Senegalese women's national basketball team has arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they will compete in a crucial qualifying tournament for the next FIBA World Cup. The Lionesses left Dakar on Saturday at 11 p.m. for a long journey with several stopovers (Paris, Atlanta) before reaching their destination.
In this qualifying phase, Senegal will play in Group B, a particularly tough group. Cheikh Sarr's team will face, among others, the United States – already qualified – as well as Spain, Italy, New Zealand, and the host country, Puerto Rico.
Three qualifying spots are at stake in this group in order to participate in the 2026 Basketball World Cup, scheduled from September 4 to 13 in Berlin, Germany.
Senegal will begin their tournament with a clash against the United States on Wednesday. The match is scheduled for 9 p.m. and is already shaping up to be a major test for the Lionesses.
