[Billet] Le Xon, ce gros raciste ! (Par Adama Ndiaye)
Nigeria, the unfortunate finalists of the last Africa Cup of Nations, will not be going to America next summer. The Super Eagles were ignominiously eliminated by the DRC, or rather, by Xon. Yes, voodoo, the curse, the unidentified weapon of mass destruction that the beloved coach, Eric Chelle, identified as the true culprit.
Imagine, then, in a fit of rage and before the fateful penalty shootout was even over, the Nigerian coach nearly came to blows with his most formidable opponent: the voodoo priest on the Congolese staff. A position whose job description is clearly more important than that of the physical or mental trainer.

This attitude, comical for a match of this magnitude, is irrefutable proof that faith in the Xon is as robust as the concrete block of the Congolese defense. It is common knowledge that national teams allocate entire budgets (probably classified under "Travel Expenses... for Spirits") to these practices.
The problem, and this is where sarcasm hits harder than a witch doctor's blow, is that this famous Xon only seems to "work" between Africans.
On the intercontinental stage, nothing. A void. African nations have, so far, not exactly shone with breathtaking results in the World Cup (a semi-final obtained by Morocco in the last edition being the exception which confirms that Xon may have been on holiday that day).
This stark observation leads us to a disturbing conclusion. If we assume that Xon has a real impact on the outcome, then it only works among Africans.
This would make Xon a purely identity-based phenomenon, an evil spirit that discriminates based on color and nationality! He is a notorious racist who refuses to attack "Whites" and "South Americans" who dominate all the titles.
Unless, and this is the last resort for our fetish priests, Europeans and South Americans have druids, shamans, and sorcerers far more powerful than ours. A kind of "Premium Voodoo" with the option of intercontinental targeting. Which, admittedly, is a possibility.
