BOXE : UN ANCIEN CHAMPION DU MONDE EXPULSÉ DES ÉTATS-UNIS SUR FOND DE NARCOTRAFIC

Former WBC world champion Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been deported from the United States to Mexico over alleged drug trafficking links, where he was detained.

For Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., it's the end of his American adventure. The 39-year-old former World Boxing Council (WBC) world champion has been deported and handed over to Mexico , according to the Prison Registry.

According to the latter's detailed information, the boxer with 51 career victories in middleweight and super-welterweight was handed over to Mexican authorities at the border post in the state of Sonora, before being placed in detention in the city of Hermosillo.

According to federal authorities, the boxer was "considered to be affiliated with the Sinaloa Cartel, which is on the list of foreign terrorist organizations."

A situation that clearly did not suit Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who was arrested last July by federal immigration agents for illegally staying in the United States , due to a refused permanent resident card.

A CAREER MARKED BY A LACK OF SERIOUSNESS

For its part, Mexico, through its president Claudia Sheinbaum, indicated that the boxer had been "extradited" due to an "arrest warrant for organized crime and arms trafficking."

The son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, who was world champion in three different categories between 1984 and 1996, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s career was marred by numerous suspensions and fines for doping control violations.

His last professional fight ended in a unanimous decision defeat (99-91, 97-93, 98-92) against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, in a fight that looked like an exhibition.
