Boycott : Pape Guèye dans le collimateur de la FSF
Pape Gueye's future with the national team could be complicated after his explosive statements following the Lions' elimination in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup against Belgium (2-3, after extra time). The Villarreal midfielder had announced: "As long as this coaching staff is in place, I will take a break from the national team," thus making his return contingent on the departure of coach Pape Thiaw and his staff.
According to Le Quotidien, this outburst was very poorly received by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), which sees it as a threat to team spirit. The newspaper, part of the Avenir Communication group, citing sources close to the national team, reports that the federation is considering disciplinary action against the player. He is also accused of disrespectful behavior towards certain FSF officials, including Secretary General Abdoulaye Seydou Sow and Marketing Manager Bamba Ba, as well as towards some of his teammates. The matter could be discussed at the next meeting of the FSF Executive Committee, the same source indicates.
