Brésil-Sénégal : la défaite des Lions coûtent cher aux parieurs sénégalais
The friendly match between Brazil and Senegal resulted in a monumental financial loss for Senegalese bettors, reports Les Échos in its Tuesday edition. According to the same source, more than 540,457,000 CFA francs were wagered on the match, which was seen as a major opportunity for profit.
As a result, the Lions' 2-0 defeat led to the total loss of their bets, causing widespread disappointment. The bettors had wagered on a Lions victory against the Seleção. Some had reportedly placed bets of up to 1 million CFA francs or more, hoping to multiply their winnings ninefold if Senegal had won.
"Beyond the financial aspect, this episode revives concerns about the risk of addiction, debt and the social impact of sports betting, which has become a real national phenomenon. Several specialists are calling for awareness campaigns and strengthened regulation in order to limit abuses," worries Les Échos.
