CAF : flou autour de la CAN féminine 2026 au Maroc

The organization of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations could see a significant change in the schedule. According to information relayed by the French media outlet L'Équipe, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is considering postponing the competition, initially scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026 in Morocco.

According to the same source, this decision follows a request from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, which reportedly preferred a postponement to a later date, yet to be determined. At this stage, neither the prospective host country nor the governing body of African football has officially confirmed the postponement or announced a new schedule.

In early February, South Africa's Deputy Minister of Sport, Peace Mabe, hinted that her country might bid to host the competition. Speaking at the Hollywoodbets Super League Awards, she mentioned a possible withdrawal by Morocco.

"We seized the opportunity because we believe we have the necessary infrastructure," she said, adding that South Africa had indicated its availability when Morocco reportedly indicated its unavailability.

However, according to the latest reports, Morocco remains a candidate to host the event and has opted for a simple postponement rather than a definitive withdrawal.

Despite these uncertainties, the Lionesses of Senegal are continuing their preparations. The national women's team held their first training session on Monday afternoon ahead of the 2026 Africa Women's Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The pre-selected players are currently gathered in a hotel in Diamniadio for a training camp which is scheduled to continue until March 7.

Senegal is aiming for its fifth appearance at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, its third consecutive appearance. Quarter-finalists in the last edition, the national team is in Group A, alongside Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.

Pending an official announcement from CAF, uncertainty remains regarding the schedule for this 2026 Women's AFCON, the details of which are yet to be finalized.
