Cameroun barragiste du Mondial 2026 : Le coup de gueule de Remy Ngono contre Marc Brys

Their record speaks for itself. Cameroon is undoubtedly one of Africa's greatest footballing nations. Five-time winners of the African Cup of Nations, the Indomitable Lions also hold the record for participation by an African team in the World Cup, with 8 appearances. They were notably at the last World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Their participation in the 2026 edition remains hypothetical. The fault lies in a poor qualifying campaign.

"A gentleman (then) arrived called Marc Brys, who denigrated the work of Rigobert Song."

Vincent Aboubakar's teammates were pipped at the post by a valiant Cape Verde Blue Sharks team. This is hardly flattering for Cameroon given its history. They now have to go through play-offs to hope to qualify. This horrifies journalist and columnist for Radio Foot International, J. Rémy Ngono.

For him, the culprit for this poor performance is clearly identified: Marc Brys. A coach "who denigrated the work of Rigobert Song," without ever managing to do better than him.

"In 2022, there weren't as many places, but they qualified with Rigobert Song in Algeria. We even beat Brazil in the World Cup and we were choosy... A gentleman (then) arrived called Marc Brys, who denigrated Rigobert Song's work. Song still left Cameroon first in its qualifying group. He left Cameroon 7th in the African rankings. We see today that Cameroon is going to the play-offs, that it is 9th in the African rankings, and we continue to applaud this gentleman," ranted the Radio Foot International columnist.

"He disrespected all the former players."

For him, all of this is "discouraging, even humiliating." He believes that, in addition to the national team's poor results, the Belgian coach has not behaved in an exemplary manner. "He has shown disrespect to all the former players," says Rémy Ngono.

Indeed, Marc Brys hasn't tried to smooth things over since his appointment as head of the Indomitable Lions. The Belgian coach has been seen openly criticizing FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto'o. He notably stated in the Brussels press that the FC Barcelona legend is certainly popular, very powerful, and a very good footballer, but that he has not succeeded in any other area. That is, as a coach, entrepreneur, and president of FECAFOOT.
