CAN-2025 : « Cette valeur ajoutée dont l’Égypte a besoin pour progresser » selon le coach Hossam Hassan
It's an open secret. Egypt will not be playing in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Hossam Hassan's men were defeated by the Lions of Senegal in the semi-finals of the competition. This defeat leaves a bitter taste for the Pharaohs, who are used to competing for the title. Nevertheless, their coach prefers to see the glass as half full.
"We tried several playing systems throughout the tournament."
He believes the tournament has allowed the team to prepare for the upcoming World Cup in America. "It was very good preparation for us. We tried several playing systems throughout the tournament and faced different types of opponents… Overall, I am satisfied with everything that happened and what we accomplished. We have a good team. We were playing away and didn't have many fans," said the Egyptian coach.
"Players based in Europe acquire better tactical intelligence."
He is convinced that his team would progress even further if it were full of players from major European leagues. "Players based in Europe acquire better tactical intelligence and become much stronger physically, and we need that added value to progress," said the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations winner.
Note that there are only three players playing in Europe among the 28 Pharaohs selected to compete in this AFCON-2025.
This has never really been a handicap for Egypt. They have won their last three AFCONs with players who mainly play at home, such as the legendary Mohamed Aboutrika and Essam El-Hadary, the mythical goalkeeper of the national Al Ahly of Cairo.

Et le pire, quand ils perdents sans rien offirr durant 90 min, ils se mettent a se plaindre de l'arbitre ou des organisateurs.
