The suspense is over for Guinean football. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in favor of Tanzania on Tuesday, November 25, putting an end to months of uncertainty surrounding the dispute between Tanzania and Guinea. The Lausanne-based (Switzerland) body rejected the appeal filed by the Guinean Football Federation (Féguifoot), definitively validating Tanzania's qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The case dates back to the decisive match played in November 2024, during the final day of the qualifiers. Tanzania won 1-0, securing their place at the Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of Guinea. However, the Guinean Football Federation (Féguifoot) contested the result, arguing that a Tanzanian player had worn a different number than the one registered on the match sheet, an administrative error that the Guinean side considered sufficient grounds to invalidate the victory.

Guinea hoped that this irregularity would lead to the disqualification of Tanzania and its own qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco.

Following the hearing held on November 17, the CAS finally issued its decision this Tuesday: the Guinean appeal was unanimously rejected, confirming the initial position of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Guinea has therefore lost a second time to Tanzania — both on the field and in the eyes of sporting justice — and has seen its last hopes of participating in the 2025 AFCON vanish.
