CAN 2025 : le Maroc fixé sur la date de dépôt de sa défense devant le TAS
A heated dispute surrounds the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations: the Court of Arbitration for Sport has set a key deadline for Morocco to file its defense against Senegal, in a case whose outcome will not be known until after the 2026 World Cup.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has informed Morocco of the deadline for submitting its defense in the dispute with Senegal.
Following receipt of the Senegalese Football Federation's appeal brief, the procedure is proceeding. The Lausanne-based body has notified the Royal Moroccan Football Federation of the deadline for submitting its arguments in the case concerning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. According to information relayed by Le360 Sport, the organization headed by Fouzi Lekjaa has until May 7th to file its defense brief.
On the Moroccan side, the response is expected to be strong. In early April, Fouzi Lekjaa asserted that Morocco possessed "convincing and documented arguments," relying in particular on official reports and video recordings.
This affair, which has rocked African football since March 17, follows the controversial decision of the Confederation of African Football's appeals committee. The committee overturned Senegal's victory on the field and awarded the trophy to Morocco by default, several weeks after the final.
Senegal had requested an accelerated procedure, a request rejected by Morocco and the CAF, who wanted more time to prepare their defense.
Given the CAS's usual processing times, estimated at between 9 and 12 months, the final verdict is expected after the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In the meantime, Morocco enters the global competition as the reigning African champions.
