CAN 2025 : Le Maroc tenu en échec à la pause
The opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Morocco and Comoros, played at the Rabat Stadium, offered a first half full of suspense and intensity, but neither team managed to open the scoring.
In the 9th minute, the Atlas Lions were awarded a penalty after a foul in the Comoros penalty area. Soufiane Rahimi took the penalty, but his shot missed, thus missing the opportunity to give Morocco an early lead.
In the 18th minute, Jawad El Yamiq replaced the injured Ghanem Saiss, bolstering the Moroccan defense. Morocco continued to dominate possession, creating numerous chances and earning several free kicks, but they were met by a solid and well-organized Comorian defense. Despite creating few opportunities, the Comoros held firm and did not succumb to the pressure.
In the 42nd minute, the Moroccans appealed for another penalty, but after consulting VAR, the referee ruled there was no foul. The match was played in intense heat, making it difficult to maintain the pace at times. In stoppage time, Abdelkader Dia received a yellow card for a foul on Comorian goalkeeper Yannick Pandor.
The first half ended in a goalless draw: Morocco 0-0 Comoros. The second half promised more exciting action and plenty of suspense for the fans.
