The Wikipedia page for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was placed under "recurrent vandalism" protection this Wednesday following a series of edits deemed abusive.
According to RMC Sport, the lockdown was triggered by repeated attempts from Senegalese supporters to list Senegal as the tournament's winner.
The page was edited 59 times within a few hours, compared to a last update dating back to February 26, the sports site reports. Faced with this unusual activity, the platform restricted editing access, now reserved only for users with specific permissions.
This situation follows a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeals jury, which sanctioned Senegal after several players temporarily left the pitch during the final against Morocco in protest of refereeing decisions—two months after the tournament ended.
The ruling body cited Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, which state that a team leaving the field before the end of the match is declared the loser.
