CAN Maroc-2025 : Coup dur pour Hamza Igamane, gravement blessé
Sunday evening will long be remembered as one of the most painful moments in Moroccan football history. Defeated in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by Senegal (1-0 after extra time) in front of their home crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the Atlas Lions suffered a double blow. In addition to losing the continental title, they saw one of their young talents, Hamza Igamane, leave the pitch injured.
Having come on as a substitute in the 97th minute of extra time, the Moroccan striker unfortunately only spent a few minutes on the pitch. In the 103rd minute, following a collision with Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, he collapsed, visibly injured in the knee. Images quickly suggested a serious injury, which was later confirmed by medical examinations.
According to an official statement, Hamza Igamane has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. This serious injury will keep him off the field for several months. A real blow for the 22-year-old, who was enjoying a promising period in his career.
Having arrived at LOSC this summer from Glasgow Rangers, the striker will now have to focus on his rehabilitation. The northern club wanted to send him a message of support: "LOSC wishes Hamza a speedy and full recovery and will support him as best as possible during this period so that he can return even stronger alongside his teammates."
This injury further darkens Morocco's disappointment after losing the final on home soil. For Hamza Igamane, the challenge now is to come back stronger after this long period of absence, with the hope of returning to the pitch soon.
