CAN Maroc-2025 : Le gouvernement nigérian réagit à la défaite des Super Eagles en demi-finale
They were probably the strongest team in this 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria's Super Eagles were defeated yesterday, Wednesday, by Morocco's Atlas Lions in the semi-finals of the competition. Dominated at times, Eric Chelle's men never managed to find the back of the net.
The adversity was clearly too much for these Super Eagles, who were used to stifling their opponents. They unfortunately lost the match on penalties.
"You reminded us that wearing green and white demonstrates courage, unity, and a refusal to give up."
In a statement released on Thursday, January 15, the Nigerian government congratulated all the players for representing the country with pride, dignity and resilience throughout the tournament.
“You have reminded us that wearing green and white is a sign of courage, unity, and perseverance. Keep your heads high, stay united, and come back stronger. Nigeria is grateful for the joy and hope you have brought us during this competition, and the nation stands with you forever,” wrote Information Minister Mohamed Idriss in his statement. He then added that football is full of “ups and downs.”
This puts the team's defeat into perspective, highlighting their exemplary effort, commitment, and fighting spirit. According to Minister Idriss, these are "precious qualities for the Nigerian nation."
