CAN Maroc-2025 : L’Égypte se qualifie dans la douleur
Egypt qualified for the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 after a hard-fought match against Benin. The Pharaohs had to battle to overcome a valiant Beninese team, who gave them a tough time.
The match was marked by a very intense first half, marred by numerous fouls and punctuated by two injuries: Mohamed Hamdy for Egypt (45th minute) and Tosin for Benin (31st minute). Both teams remained solid defensively for much of the half, and went into the break with the score still 0-0.
It wasn't until the 69th minute that Egypt finally broke the deadlock. Midfielder Marwan Attiah unlocked the situation, giving the impression that the Pharaohs had done the hard part.
But that was without counting on the determination of the Cheetahs, who snatched the equalizer thanks to Jodel Dossou (83rd), forcing the two teams to play extra time.
In the 97th minute, Egypt regained the lead with an unstoppable header from Yasser Ibrahim. In the dying seconds of extra time, Mohamed Salah sealed the Pharaohs' victory by scoring Egypt's third goal.
