CAN Maroc-2025 : Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang forfait face à la Côte d’Ivoire
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's adventure at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has come to a premature end. Already eliminated from the competition, Gabon will have to do without their captain for their final group stage match against Ivory Coast tomorrow, Wednesday, December 31. The 36-year-old striker has been forced to withdraw due to a thigh injury.
Having picked up an injury the day after the match against Mozambique, the former AS Saint-Étienne striker is experiencing persistent discomfort in his left thigh. Following several clinical examinations conducted as part of a joint medical protocol between the Gabonese national team and Olympique de Marseille, it was decided not to take any unnecessary risks.
In an official statement, the Gabonese Football Federation specifies that, given the elimination of the Panthers and the lack of sporting stakes for this last outing, the medical staff opted to preserve the physical integrity of the player.
Aubameyang was therefore excused from the match against the Elephants and made available to his club in order to continue his medical treatment.
Gabon's all-time leading scorer (86 caps, 40 goals) left the training camp on Tuesday to join Marseille.
It remains to be seen whether the Marseille striker will recover in time for OM's trip to Nantes next Sunday in Ligue 1.
