CAN Maroc-2025 : Une défaite et trois gardiens utilisés, soirée amère pour l’Ouganda
All eliminations leave a bitter taste, but the one suffered by Uganda on Wednesday is particularly painful. Facing a Nigeria team that had already qualified and fielded a largely revamped starting eleven, the Ugandans hoped to secure a positive result to guarantee their place in the round of 16.
But the match quickly turned into a nightmare. Veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango suffered an unusual injury, slipping on the mat behind the goal. His replacement, Jamal Omar Magoola (46th minute), only lasted ten minutes on the pitch. Guilty of a handball outside the penalty area, he was sent off by the referee (56th minute).
Faced with this very complicated situation, the Ugandan coach was forced to sacrifice an outfield player to bring in a third goalkeeper.
However, he could do nothing to prevent the defeat (3-1) and Uganda's elimination from the tournament.
A very bitter evening for the Cranes.
