CAN U17 : le Sénégal entre en lice ce jeudi face à l'Afrique du Sud
Widely considered one of the favorites for the tournament, Senegal begins its campaign this Thursday at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 with a highly anticipated match against South Africa. The game will kick off at 4 PM at the Mohammed VI Complex.
Crowned African champions in 2023, the Young Lions approach this edition with high ambitions and the label of team to beat. In the previous AFCON, the Senegalese saw their run end in the quarter-finals after a frustrating penalty shootout defeat to Ivory Coast.
Under the guidance of coach Lamine Sané, this new generation aims to take the next step and confirm the full potential of Senegalese youth football. Led by their playmaker El Hadji Ibrahima Sow, the Young Lions will need to make a strong start against a South African side renowned for its intensity, tactical discipline, and technical skill.
This first match is already shaping up to be decisive in a particularly tough group, which also includes Ghana, the first winner in the tournament's history in 1995, and Algeria.
Beyond a strong start to the competition, Senegal's main objective will also be to secure qualification for the U17 World Cup, reserved for teams reaching the quarterfinals. The Young Lions will also be aiming for the continental title, currently held by Morocco, the host country of this edition.
