The inclusion of Bara Sapoko in the extended squad for Senegal's Lions has raised questions, particularly given his limited playing time at club level. Faced with questions from the press, national coach Pape Thiaw sought to justify his selection, while refusing to focus the debate on any one player in particular.

“I don’t like to personalize debates,” the Senegalese coach stated from the outset. When questioned about Bara Sapoko’s situation, Pape Thiaw reiterated that national team selection is based on a comprehensive analysis, not a single criterion.

The coach emphasized the thoughtful nature of the squad announced for the upcoming training camp. "This list has been carefully considered," he stated, noting that it currently includes 28 players. Two players will still need to be cut from the squad after the preparation phase before the final roster is finalized.

For Pape Thiaw, the three weeks of preparation ahead will be crucial. They will allow the coaching staff to evaluate the players under optimal conditions and finalize their selections. "We have a competent staff that works rigorously," he affirmed.

Regarding the selection criteria, the coach remained discreet. "I'm not going to publicly reveal the criteria that guided our choices," he explained, considering these elements to be part of the national team's internal operations.

Despite the debates surrounding certain names, including that of Bara Sapoko, Pape Thiaw remains calm and confident in his decisions. According to him, the selected squad possesses the necessary qualities to meet the demands of top-level football.

"This list is the result of careful consideration. It has been constructed with care and I consider it balanced and adapted to the demands of the competition," concluded the Lions' coach.

Même si Dieu nous avait proposé une liste en assurant la coupe, on verrait des récalcitrants qui constesteront ses choix. C’est dans le sang du sénégalais
