« C'est l'histoire du ... » : Ferdinand Coly enflamme le choc Sénégal-France
Drawn in Group I, Senegal will face France in the World Cup, twenty-four years after the historic feat of 2002, when Bruno Metsu's Lions overturned the reigning world champions, Les Bleus, thanks to Papa Bouba Diop's goal.
This highly anticipated new poster brings back memories for Ferdinand Coly, one of the heroes of 2002. For the former Lions defender, quoted by L'Observateur, this rematch goes beyond mere sporting events: "It's destiny, it's written... France and Senegal have intertwined destinies, the history of the colonizer and the colonized. Everyone will find their own motivations: revenge, confirmation, the desire to make history."
Coly believes this match will add a special emotional dimension to Senegal's first game in the tournament. He also emphasizes that the French will no longer approach this encounter with the same nonchalance as in 2002, when they underestimated the Senegalese.
"My French teammates told me that Zidane's France was going to crush us. I would be surprised if the Senegalese players heard that today."
