Morocco could have lost the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final if Nigeria had been more clinical in the penalty shootout. Indeed, Morocco's second penalty taker, Hamza Igamane, missed his shot. In the post-match press conference, Walid Regragui expressed some regret for allowing the Lille striker to take the first penalty.
"I sent him into the fire."
“I would like to apologize to Hamza Igamane because it was me who selected him. I shouldn’t have. He’s a young player. It’s true that Eliesse (Ben Seghir), who is also a young player, scored, but Hamza hasn’t played for a long time. Was he in the best condition? Since he’s a player with a lot of quality, who shoots really well in training, I put him in the lineup,” said Regragui.
He believes that if "unfortunately, Morocco had been eliminated, it would be partly (his) fault, because (he) was the one who chose Hamza."
