Coupe du monde 2026 : l’Argentine enregistre un forfait
With just days to go before the start of the 2026 World Cup, bad news continues to pile up for the qualified teams. After the withdrawal of Germany's Lennart Karl, it is now Argentina's turn to have to cope with a significant absence.
According to ESPN journalist Nacho Rivarola, center-back Leonardo Balerdi was injured during a training session with Argentina. Medical examinations have reportedly revealed he will be sidelined for at least a month, thus ending his hopes of participating in the World Cup being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
This injury forces Argentina's coach Lionel Scaloni to revise his plans and call up a replacement to strengthen his defensive sector.
This unavailability could also have repercussions for Olympique de Marseille. Considered one of the most valuable players in the Marseille squad, Balerdi was among those likely to be key figures in the upcoming summer transfer window. A prolonged absence could therefore hinder certain transfer targets and complicate the club's financial plans.
