Coupe du monde 2026 : « Un événement trop grand pour être reporté », assure la FIFA
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is not threatened despite current geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. FIFA's Director of Operations, Heimo Schirgi, who addressed the issue, was categorical: such a scenario is not conceivable.
World football's governing body has assured that the competition, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will proceed as planned. "The World Cup is too important an event to be postponed," it stated.
From the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, which will house the international broadcast center for the tournament, the FIFA official also expressed hope that all qualified nations could take part in the competition, despite a tense international context.
Iran's participation is not currently in doubt. The Iranian team is in Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand.
Despite the uncertainties linked to the ongoing conflicts, FIFA is therefore maintaining its course and assures that the organization of the World Cup is following its normal schedule.
