Crise à Radisson Diamniadio : les Lions piégés dans des soupçons de conflit d’intérêts
For the next qualifying window for the 2026 World Cup, on October 10 and 14, will the Lions establish their base camp at the Radisson Diamniadio, as has been the case in recent years? "No decision has yet been made by the Ministry of Sports and the Senegalese Football Federation regarding a move from the Tanière. But a consultation will surely be on the agenda for the preparation of [the said] gathering," confided sources from the newspaper Les Échos, which raised the question in its Monday edition.
The traditional gathering place for the national team is in crisis. Citing economic reasons, the hotel management fired several employees last September. To protest this measure, the affected workers had disrupted the operation of the establishment. This unrest had hampered the Lions' preparations, who were in preparation for their matches (World Cup 2026) against Sudan (September 5) and DR Congo (September 9). "Breakfast [for Pape Thiaw's men] was delayed once, creating tensions and affecting the team's concentration," reports Les Échos.
The crisis has not abated since then. Protests continue, and the dismissed employees continue to lay siege to the hotel, the daily newspaper reports. If an urgent solution is not found, the Tanière will likely be relocated elsewhere than at the Radisson Diamniadio for the October meetings.
Especially since the former reception workers reported in a video that "the hotel was completely emptied and its human and material resources were moved to a nearby hotel. The infrastructure in question belongs to the Turks." "This is where the conflict of interest arose," points out the general director of the Public Infrastructure Management Company in the urban centers of Diamniadio and Lac Rose (SOGIP), Dame Mbodji, quoted by Les Échos.
The latter points out that former President Macky Sall had handed over the land on which the new hotel is being built to the Turks, builders of several infrastructures in the area, including the Abdoulaye-Wade stadium and the Dakar Arena basketball temple. Clearly, they want to suffocate the Radisson by taking its human resources and equipment, with the hope of recovering its customers, notably Sadio Mané and Co.
A source from Les Echos also revealed that "they even suggested to the Senegalese staff that they move the Lions during the last training camp, when the strike took place." The move didn't go through. Pape Thiaw and his men stayed at the Radisson. But it's highly likely that the Turks will return to the fray for the Lions' next training camp.
