Crise institutionnelle à la Fédération Malienne : la FIFA et la CAF balisent la transition vers de nouvelles élections
The Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) is entering a new and decisive phase in its institutional history. In a joint letter addressed to the Secretary General of FEMAFOOT, FIFA and CAF officially acknowledged the collective resignation of all members of the Executive Committee, effectively creating a vacancy in all leadership positions within the governing body of Malian football.
Following letters dated January 14 and 19, 2026, and an online meeting held on January 22, 2026, with representatives of FIFA and CAF, the two organizations conducted a thorough analysis of the situation. They reiterate that, in accordance with the current Statutes, it is now the responsibility of the Secretary General of FEMAFOOT to manage day-to-day affairs and convene an extraordinary elective General Assembly within the regulatory timeframe.
Pending the election of a new Executive Committee, FIFA and CAF ask the Secretary General to take all necessary steps to organize the electoral process, based on a roadmap to be drawn up by FEMAFOOT and then jointly validated by FIFA and CAF.
The two international bodies also emphasize the central role of the Electoral Commissions, established during the General Assembly of November 15, 2025. These are called upon to conduct the entire electoral process in complete independence, in strict compliance with the Statutes and the Electoral Code of FEMAFOOT, until the election of a new Executive Committee.
In order to harmonize the interpretation of the texts and avoid any dispute, an online meeting should be held soon between FIFA, CAF, the Secretary General and the Electoral Commissions, to examine the legal and technical aspects of the process and definitively validate the electoral roadmap.
Clarification on financial management
On the financial front, FIFA and CAF also provided important clarifications. Until a new Executive Committee is established, the authorized signatories of FEMAFOOT's FIFA Forward and CAF Impact accounts are designated as follows: Mr. Sidi Bekaye Magassa, General Secretary of FEMAFOOT; Mr. Koniba Maïga, Financial Director of FEMAFOOT.
These two officials will exercise their prerogatives to ensure the administrative and financial continuity of the Federation during the transitional period.
A call for responsibility and cooperation
Finally, FIFA and CAF call for the full cooperation of all stakeholders in Malian football, with the aim of completing the electoral process as quickly as possible. The future Executive Committee, which will be elected for a four-year term, will be responsible for restoring stability and leading FEMAFOOT in accordance with its Statutes.
FIFA also announced that it will closely monitor the electoral process and will send representatives to the elective General Assembly to ensure the transparency and credibility of the elections.
