Cristiano Ronaldo devient copropriétaire d’un club espagnol
Superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is now a co-owner of UD Almeria.
The 41-year-old Portuguese striker has acquired 25% of the shares of a Saudi-backed Spanish second division club.
On Thursday morning, it was announced that Ronaldo had acquired 25% of the club's shares, which will be held by CR7 Sports Investments, a newly created subsidiary in his name.
"I have always nurtured the ambition to contribute to football, beyond the pitch," said the Al-Nassr and Portugal captain, who is now an active player and co-owner, in a statement.
"UD Almeria is a Spanish club with solid foundations and clear growth potential. I look forward to working alongside the management team to support the next phase of the club's development."
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed, but it marks Ronaldo's return to Spanish football after nine successful seasons at Real Madrid before his move to Juventus in the summer of 2018.
His involvement also comes a year after the takeover of the Spanish second division club by a Saudi investment group.
Al Khereiji, president of UD Almeria, said: "We are very happy that Cristiano has chosen our club to invest in."
"He is considered the greatest player of all time, he knows the Spanish leagues very well, and he understands the potential of what we are building here, both at the team level and at the youth academy level."
