Eli Kroupi Jr convoité par la Côte d’Ivoire, son père clôt le débat : «Junior est Français, il ne connaît pas la Côte d’Ivoire»
A French international since the U16 level, Eli Kroupi Jr. is among the young talents likely to join the French national team in the coming years. At 19, the striker remains eligible to represent Ivory Coast, the country of origin of his father, a former Ivorian international who earned two caps for the Elephants between 2001 and 2005.
Faced with speculation, the player's father wanted to clarify his position on his son's international future. While acknowledging the complexity of the situation, he stated that he did not want to influence Junior's decision.
“Junior is French. He doesn’t know Ivory Coast. So these are very difficult decisions. I can’t pressure him to choose Ivory Coast or harass him about it. If things go wrong, he could blame me. Above all, I want to remain in my role as a father, and I would like people to understand that. He’s my only son, I raised him. Whatever his choices, positive or negative, I will support him,” he told Sport News Africa.
Eli Kroupi also points out the unusual nature of his son's profile, as he holds three nationalities: "His mother is Portuguese, I am Ivorian, and he is French. It's a delicate situation. I played for Ivory Coast, but that was a different time, that's my story. For him, it's different."
Trained at FC Lorient, Eli Junior Kroupi currently plays for Bournemouth in the English Premier League.
