Senegal's national team could be without Edouard Mendy for the 7th and 8th rounds of the World Cup qualifiers. The Al-Ahly goalkeeper, injured on Thursday's opening day of the Saudi Pro League, is now a doubt for the Lions' matches against Sudan and DR Congo.
Mendy, who was injured during Al-Ahly's 1-0 win over NEOM SC, is suffering from a bruise, according to a medical statement released by his club this Sunday. Already out of the King's Cup Round of 32 against Al-Arabi, the former Chelsea goalkeeper's availability for the Lions of Teranga is in doubt.
Senegal will face Sudan on September 5, before meeting DR Congo on September 9, two crucial matches to continue their momentum in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. A possible absence of Mendy would represent a real headache for coach Pape Thiaw, who could be forced to do without his usual last line of defense.
While the Saudi club's medical staff is closely monitoring his progress, the Senegalese Football Federation is still awaiting definitive information to decide on the presence of the Lions' number one goalkeeper.
