FC Barcelone : gros coup dur pour Lamine Yamal
Barely back on the pitch, Lamine Yamal has already had to stop. Victim of a relapse of his pubic pain, the FC Barcelona prodigy will be sidelined for an estimated period of two to three weeks, the Catalan club announced this Friday.
Runner-up for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, Yamal, who played extensively last season, had already sparked debate in Spain after being called up by Luis de la Fuente for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Bulgaria (October 11 and 14). Returning from injury for less than a week, his selection had raised eyebrows at Barça. According to Marca, coach Hans-Dieter Flick had tried, unsuccessfully, to convince the Spanish Federation not to retain his 18-year-old striker. Ultimately, the Barça winger will not be joining La Roja, but for a completely different reason: he is injured again.
The Catalan club's medical statement stated that "the pubic pain that had been bothering Lamine Yamal reappeared after the Champions League match against PSG on Wednesday. Barcelona lost 2-1 despite Ferran Torres opening the scoring, before goals from Senny Mayulu and Gonçalo Ramos for Paris.
A blow before the Clasico?
Already absent at the beginning of September, which caused him to miss four matches, Yamal had only just found his rhythm. He came on as a substitute against Real Sociedad (2-1), and then started against PSG. His relapse comes at the worst possible time for Barça, who will be without him on Sunday in Seville in La Liga. However, the club hopes to have him back after the international break, against Girona, and especially to have him ready for the El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26.
