Foot: Postecoglou limogé par Nottingham après un mois et neuf jours d'échecs
English club Nottingham Forest has "relieved" coach Ange Postecoglou, one month and nine days after his appointment and following another defeat on Saturday against Chelsea (3-0).
The current 17th-placed Premier League player cited "a series of disappointing results and performances" to justify the dismissal "with immediate effect" of the Australian, who is without a win after eight matches in all competitions.
Under his leadership, the Midlands "Reds" slipped from tenth to 17th place in the Premier League, with a disastrous record: four defeats and one draw, ten goals conceded and only one scored (1-1 against promoted Burnley).
Forest could even fall into the relegation zone during the eighth day of the championship depending on the results of Burnley (18th, 4 pts) and West Ham (19th, 4 pts), the club where his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo bounced back.
Postecoglou's failure at the City Ground is also, and above all, that of owner Evangelos Marinakis, a Greek businessman known for his impatience, who sacked a popular Portuguese coach on September 9.
Nuno was appointed in December 2023 when Nottingham Forest were 17th in the Premier League. He led the club to a seventh-place finish last season, with European qualification on the cards.
The coach publicly expressed concern about the lack of reinforcements obtained in the first weeks of the off-season this summer, comments that greatly displeased Marinakis.
Postecoglou arrived on a free transfer after being fired during the off-season by Tottenham, the London club with whom he won the Europa League after a failed season in the league (17th place).
