Foot: Tottenham, 16e de Premier League, se sépare de l'entraîneur Thomas Frank
English club Tottenham announced on Wednesday that they were parting ways with their Danish coach Thomas Frank, just eight months after his arrival, the day after an eleventh league defeat that plunged Spurs to 16th place.
By bringing in the 52-year-old Dane, who arrived last summer from Brentford, Tottenham will have to find a sixth permanent coach in seven years, an instability that arose after the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.
An eight-match winless streak in the Premier League has pushed Spurs closer to the relegation zone. They are only five points ahead of West Ham, the current first team in the relegation zone.
"Thomas was appointed in June 2025 and we were committed to giving him the time and support necessary to build the future together," the north London club wrote in a statement. "However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this stage of the season was necessary."
History repeats itself after last season ended with a Europa League title but a 17th place in the league, a rank unworthy of the Spurs' standing and the reason for the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou.
Like the Australian, Frank shone on the European stage, securing direct qualification for the round of 16 of the Champions League, but completely lost his way in the Premier League.
Tottenham have lost 11 of their 26 league matches, including Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle. The team in white have won only seven league games under the Dane's management, just two of them at home.
The former Brondby and Brentford coach had been targeted by supporters for several weeks due to poor performances and a level of play deemed unsuitable for the club's attacking culture.
However, the discontent extends beyond Frank's case alone. The public regularly protests against the club's management for various reasons, starting with ticket prices and recruitment policy.
Before his dismissal, the Danish coach was without a dozen players, mainly potential starters (Pedro Porro, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison...) due to injuries.
