Football : la CAF annonce une importante augmentation des primes destinées aux clubs
The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has announced a significant increase in the bonuses for clubs that win the continent's two biggest interclub competitions: the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
According to an announcement by CAF, the winner of the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League will now receive $6 million, a 50% increase over the previous prize. Meanwhile, the club that wins the CAF Confederation Cup will receive $4 million, representing a 100% increase.
This decision is part of the financial reform policy initiated by Patrice Motsepe since he took over as head of the Confederation of African Football. In his five years as president, prize money for African competitions has seen a significant increase.
Thus, the prize money awarded to the winner of the CAF Champions League increased from $2.5 million to $6 million, representing an overall increase of 140%. At the same time, the prize money for the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup rose from $1.25 million to $4 million, an increase of 220%.
With these new measures, the total amount of bonuses and solidarity payments paid to African clubs now exceeds $42 million per season, representing an increase of 114% since Patrice Motsepe was elected president of CAF.
By comparison, in 2021, the Confederation of African Football distributed only $18.8 million in total to clubs involved in its interclub competitions.
This increase in financial rewards aims in particular to strengthen the competitiveness of African clubs, improve the quality of competitions and support the development of football on the continent.
