Football : un fils de Zinedine Zidane opte pour l’Algérie
We'll soon see a Zidane in Algerian colors. Luca Zidane, son of French legend Zinedine Zidane, has decided to continue his international career with his father's home country. While they haven't seen the great Zidane in the Algerian jersey, the Algerian Federation's leadership has managed to convince one of his four sons.
FIFA has officially confirmed on its website that Granada goalkeeper Luca Zidane has changed his sporting nationality and is now eligible to play for Algeria. At 27, the Marseille native has therefore definitively turned the page on French national teams.
Luca Zidane has spent most of his career in Spain, playing for Real Madrid's youth teams (2014-2019), then Racing Santander, Rayo Vallecano, Eibar, before joining Granada in July 2024. In international football, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has played for almost all of the French youth teams: 3 caps in U16, 14 in U17, 6 in U18, 6 in U19 and 1 in U20 in 2018.
With little chance of joining the French national team, which already boasts three top-flight goalkeepers (Mike Maignan, Brice Samba, and Lucas Chevalier), Luca Zidane has logically chosen to try his luck with Algeria. The announcement has already sparked a lot of reaction on the other side of the Mediterranean, especially since he is now among Vladimir Petkovic's potential call-ups for the matches against Somalia (October 9) and Uganda (October 14), counting for the 9th and 10th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
While we wait to see if Algeria's coach will retain Luca Zidane, this change of nationality could give him increased visibility. Currently in the Spanish second division, he was also announced as a target for Paris FC last summer.
If he is called up, he will not be the first Zidane to wear the Fennecs jersey. Indeed, in the 1980s, Djamel Zidane, who is not related to Zinedine Zidane, had already played for Algeria.

Il a quand meme 27 ans, donc presque en fin de carriere. L'Algerie semble avoir ete un choix par defaut. Je pense que l'Algerie peut s'en passer.

L'Algerie à default . Il n'a ni place ni esperance d'etre titulaire en france .
